In Nepal, the Female Community Health Volunteer programme (FCHV) started in the late 80s. Today, over 50,000 women volunteer across the country, offering maternal health care to thousands of mothers and babies in rural community settings. Many are illiterate, however all of them are powerful, knowlegeable figures, respected in their communities and trained to help families who otherwise have no access to health care. Since 2018, Jaya Mental Health has been working with a group of FCHVs on a pilot project in which these play a central role in supporting people affected by mental heakth problems. This March we continued our training programme. Always a pleasure to work alongside these extraordinary women
