In Nepal, Dementia remains a word unknown to many people. However, as the life expectancy of Nepalese people and South Asians in general continues to increase, so does the number of people affected by dementia. Therefore, developing services able to respond to the needs of people affected by dementia must be a priority.
Luvana Shrestha, Jaya Mental Health Nepal Country Director, and Sailesh Bhandari, Jaya Mental Health Nurse Educator, were recently invited by the Dementia Care Team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to visit their offices and explore the work done by this nursing-led team at different hospitals across London.
Over the coming years and with the support of services like Imperial’s Dementia Care Team, Jaya will be involved in designing a dementia action plan in Nepal. This plan will change the lives of hundreds of people affected by dementia in South Asia.
