Through your support, we will recruit, train, upskill, and deploy dedicated Community Mental Health Nurses in communities where they are needed. These nurses will save lives and bring understanding, resilience, and support to individuals in each community they serve.

The need is real – this is why it matters

The Solution

£5 supports a community mental health nurse to make 25 monthly follow-up calls to patients at risk of self-harming, supporting them into recovery.

£20 covers home visits for 5 individuals in need, crucial for remote areas where people cannot visit their nearest health post.

£40 allows a nurse to assist 20 people in the community with depression, anxiety, or alcohol-use issues, as well as women affected by gender-based violence.

£80 funds a community education session to reduce stigma and misunderstanding so that people experiencing mental health issues are included in community life.

The need is real
– this is why it matters

In many low-income communities across South Asia and beyond, mental health support is virtually non-existent. Mental health nurses — especially community-based specialists who can visit people in their homes — are in critically short supply. Too many people struggling with mental health issues have nowhere to turn.

Violence against women and girls further deepens this crisis. It is a major public health concern, leaving lasting trauma and disrupting survivors’ social, economic, and psychological well-being. With suicide now the leading cause of death among women of working age in several South Asian countries, the shortage of trained mental health nurses is both chronic and urgent. Building a new generation of nurses equipped to provide compassionate, community-based care is not only essential — it is lifesaving.

Supporting this campaign delivers tangible, life-changing results:

  • For Individuals: Access to counselling, diagnosis, medication, and follow-up care opens new doors for recovery. Support networks help prevent moments of crisis, avoiding hospitalisation, and keeping people well in their homes.
  • For Families: Guidance and education empower families to support one another, promoting resilience, understanding, and emotional well-being.
  • For Communities: Local support groups and awareness initiatives foster solidarity and openness, turning communities into places of inclusion and strength.
  • For the Healthcare System: Integrating mental health services at the community level strengthens overall healthcare and lays the groundwork for even greater expansion in the years to come.
  • Sustainable Change: with long-term support from local governments, these nursing roles will become enduring pillars of community care, transforming lives for generations to come.
